Deutscher Sport Club Officially, the Deutscher Sport Club, was started in Richmond, Virginia, in 1960. It evolved from a group of German friends who worked for German companies in the Richmond area. Starting around 1958, they met periodically to play soccer. In good German tradition they would also meet privately at German style parties. As the group got larger, and the parties became more formal, the decision was made to form the club. For many years the newly formed soccer team played in the Richmond Parks and Recreation league, until in 1975, the soccer manager of the DSC, Hans Stienen, took the lead, along with the soccer Manager of the Richmond Internationals, Ron Beckstoffer, and the Richmond Latin team. They decided to form the Central Virginia Soccer Association (CVSA). Hans Stienen became the first President of the CVSA.
In those years the Deutscher Sports Club fielded up to four teams and was very successful. Its teams won a total of 27 league and Cup titles. During the last few years, the Sports Club has not fielded a soccer team because we could not find a suitable manager and coach. Soccer players, coaches, and someone who is qualified and willing to manage the Sports Clubs adult soccer program, should contact the President at 804-862-3236.
Today the DSC is primarily a social club with over 200 members. Every year we host several dances, picnics, and other traditional German functions. Together with the Virginia Gesangverein, we host the very popular Richmond Oktoberfest, a traditional fest which has been hosted for over 40 years, and is celebrated by about 5000 people each year.
You can find more information about the club in the Deutscher Sports Club History Section, and under events. Everyone is welcome. Please click here to learn more.

Gesangverein Virginia The Männerchor Gesang-Verein of Virginia was founded in Richmond on July 2, 1852, and began as a German men's singing society. Though the club has changed somewhat over the years, and is today primarily a social club with limited emphasis on singing, many of the old German songs are still being sung by the members. Old songs such as "Lili Marlene", "In München Steht Ein Hobräuhaus", and "Du, Du, liegst mir im Herzen" are still popular favorites sung to the sounds of live accordion and piano music.
